New Delhi: Taking aim at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, the BJP on Wednesday claimed that members of the key constituents of the opposition 'Bharat' alliance did not join his party's protest against the resolution moved by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on the issue of imposition of Emergency in the country in 1975. The ruling party at the Centre also alleged that the Congress had imposed Emergency on the country for its 'hunger for power' and it is because of this hunger for power of the Gandhi family that the boat of 'Bharat' alliance is swaying.Speaker Om Birla read out the motion regarding emergency
In fact, soon after being elected as the Speaker of the Lok Sabha, Om Birla read out a resolution condemning the imposition of Emergency in the lower house and called the decision of the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi an attack on the Constitution. There was a confrontation between the government and the opposition when the Lok Sabha Speaker mentioned the Emergency in the first session of the lower house.

'Congress is creating ruckus, SP did not support'
BJP national spokesperson and MP Sambit Patra said, 'As soon as Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla moved a censure motion on the Emergency, Congress people stood up and started creating a ruckus. Congress people were running away, but Samajwadi Party people remained seated. Whether Rahul Gandhi stands up or not, shouts or not, he should look at Akhilesh ji and his people once.' He said, 'This is the situation when you are unjust and try to appear just.'

'Opposition parties did not join Congress' protest'
Patra claimed that this situation arose because members of Samajwadi Party (SP), Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and Trinamool Congress (TMC) did not join his (Rahul Gandhi) party's protest. He said, 'Congress members were protesting and creating ruckus near the Speaker's chair, while SP, DMK and TMC members got up from their seats and stood up peacefully. Seeing them, Rahul Gandhi also finally had to stand up from his seat.'

'Opposition alliance is faltering due to hunger for power'Patra said, 'Remember the time when Indira Gandhi was power hungry. For the hunger of power, Congress imposed emergency on the country and this hunger of power of the Gandhi family is shaking the 'Indy' alliance.' He said that Rahul Gandhi knows that his grandmother and his family have made a mistake but he is only worried about getting power. Patra thanked the Trinamool Congress, DMK and all other members of the Lok Sabha for being sensitive and observing silence in memory of those who lost their lives during the Emergency.
