2 teams are almost out of the playoff race, now these 8 teams are competing for top-4

New Delhi. Changes are being seen in the points table every day after the matches being played in the Indian Premier League. A day earlier, Sunrisers Hyderabad had secured the second position with their 5th win and the very next day, Kolkata Knight Riders regained their position by defeating Royal Challengers Bangalore. After this defeat, Virat Kohli's team's playoff hopes are now blurred. There is another team whose elimination is almost certain.

Royal Challengers Bangalore's hopes of staying in the playoff race have suffered a setback after the defeat against Kolkata Knight Riders on Sunday 21 April. After completing half the journey of the tournament, while Rajasthan Royals team remains on top, Kolkata has regained the second position. Sunrisers Hyderabad, which is performing record breaking, is running at the third position. Mahendra Singh Dhoni's current champion Chennai Super is at fourth position. Lucknow Super Giants team is running at number 5.

2 teams are certain to be eliminated
After playing 8-8 matches so far in the Indian Premier League 2024, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Punjab Kings are unlikely to reach the playoffs in terms of the wins they have in their account. RCB, which is at the bottom of the points table, has won only 1 match and lost 7. Punjab team has 2 wins and has lost 6. Despite winning all the remaining matches, RCB will still be able to reach a maximum of 14 points. Whereas Punjab will be able to reach only 16 points by winning all its remaining matches. If both the teams have to play one of these matches against each other, then one or the other will lose.

8 teams in the race for playoffs
Talking about the race for playoff, Rajasthan, Kolkata, Chennai and Lucknow have the strongest claims among the top four teams. Sanju Samson's team is on top with 12 points and will get a place in the next round after winning only 2 matches. Kolkata has 10 points and can reach the playoffs by winning the next 3 matches. Chennai and Lucknow have scored 8 points, so by winning 4 matches they can reach 16 points.

The Gujarat team has won 4 after playing 8 matches and needs at least 4 wins in the next 6 matches. Mumbai Indians have played 7 matches and won three, while Delhi has the same number of wins in their account after 8 matches. Both of them also have every chance to make it to the playoffs by winning the upcoming matches.
