New Delhi: The monsoon is progressing at a fast pace. In the areas where the smell of monsoon has not yet reached, the heat is wreaking havoc with the scorching sun and the heat waves are troubling the people. When the southwest monsoon reached Maharashtra on Thursday, the state got relief from the scorching heat. According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), it is expected to move towards Mumbai, the remaining areas of Karnataka, coastal Andhra Pradesh and southern Chhattisgarh in the next three-four days.

Know where the monsoon is passing through

The monsoon is currently passing through Ratnagiri and Solapur in Maharashtra, Medak in Telangana, Bhadrachalam and Vijayanagaram in Andhra Pradesh and Islampur in West Bengal. IMD Director General Mrityunjay Mahapatra said, 'By the time the monsoon reaches central India next week, it will have covered half of the country. There is no possibility of further heat in the monsoon areas. Rainfall has been normal so far in June.'

Monsoon gains momentum

The monsoon usually reaches Mumbai around June 10-11. On Thursday, it advanced into some more parts of central Arabian Sea, most parts of Karnataka, Maharashtra, Telangana, coastal Andhra Pradesh and some more parts of west-central and northwest Bay of Bengal. The IMD said, “Conditions are favourable for the southwest monsoon to advance into some more parts of central Arabian Sea, remaining parts of Karnataka and coastal Andhra Pradesh, some more parts of Maharashtra including Mumbai, some parts of Telangana, south Chhattisgarh and south Odisha, remaining parts of west central and most parts of northwest Bay of Bengal during the next 3-4 days.”

Where is the monsoon reaching in the next five days?

The weather department has indicated that there is a possibility of rain and thundershowers in northwest India till Friday. Heat wave conditions may prevail in some areas of eastern India, Uttar Pradesh and northern Madhya Pradesh in the next five days. Heat wave conditions have been prevailing in Haryana since May 17 and in Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh since May 18.
Mahesh Palawat, Vice President (Climate and Meteorology), Skymet Weather, said, “So far the progress of monsoon has been almost normal. However, rainfall has reduced in peninsular India. In the next three to four days, monsoon will advance to areas like Pune, Mumbai etc. There is a monsoon wave in the western region. We cannot immediately say whether it will advance in time to northwest India, which is affected by high temperatures.”

Monsoon is bringing relief to its area, while some areas are still facing heat. The Indian Meteorological Department is optimistic about its progress and possible weather changes in the coming days.
