UPSC Preparation Strategy
According to Harsh Verma, you can prepare for UPSC from basic books. This includes books like Laxmikant and Spectrum. To cover environment and geography, he studied from PMF IAS book. Harsh says that NCERT gives understanding up to a level. But if you want to understand things beyond that, then you will have to take help of other books as well. You do not need to make notes from basic books. Read it two-three times in the beginning and then revise it.
Important Topics of UPSC Preliminary Exam
Harsh Verma also told the candidates going to appear for the prelims about some topics from which questions are expected. He said that there is a high possibility of questions coming from topics like Art and Culture, Vedas, Ashoka, Gupta, Buddhism and Jainism. So cover these topics well. Apart from this, revise more from basic books. Also, you do not need to change the source of your studies. By doing this you get confused.
UPSC Current Affairs 2024
To cover current affairs, it is most important that you read newspapers daily. You do not need to make notes of these. You can revise them from PDF. Apart from this, you can also take help of current affairs magazines.
UPSC Revision Scheme
Harsh told that there are two methods of revision. Active recall and passive reading. In active recall, after reading the topic, you try to remember in your mind what else you can write on this topic. Whereas in passive reading, you revise them again and again after reading. If you study in this way, then you remember things for a long time. Talking about revision interval, after reading any topic, definitely revise it in a day or two.
UPSC Mock Test Series
Harsh told that mock tests are the most important in UPSC preparation. If you have completed your syllabus, then give good mock tests to apply it. This shows your level of preparation. By giving 50-60 mock tests, you can prepare yourself well for the exam. But now that the prelims is near, solve the previous year question papers. Also read about the options given with the questions from the books.
CSAT in UPSC Exam
Harsh told that CSAT is getting increasingly difficult. For this you have to practice as much as possible and solve questions without formulas. You can also reach the answer by eliminating the options. For this you have to pay special attention to time management.
UPSC Preliminary Exam Preparation Tips
For UPSC Prelims, Harsh said that candidates should not ignore CSAT at all. Give it as much time as possible. Also focus on revision. Do not pay much attention to current affairs at this time, try to cover only important topics.
