Star spinner acquitted of rape charges, fans got good news

kathmandu, Nepal's star spinner Sandeep Lamichhane, who has played in the Indian Premier League, got relief news on Wednesday. The Nepal High Court on Wednesday overturned the eight-year jail sentence of the country's star cricketer and former national team captain Sandeep Lamichhane on rape charges and acquitted him of all charges.

A two-judge panel of the Patan High Court ruled in January to quash the sentence given to Sandeep by the Kathmandu District Court. The victim had said that she was sexually assaulted on August 21, 2022. The identity of the victim has been kept confidential. Lamichhane was arrested soon thereafter and spent time in jail before being released on bail while the case was heard in court.

At that time, Lamichhane was also ordered to pay a fine of Rs 3 lakh and compensation of Rs 2 lakh to the victim. On Wednesday, dozens of Lamichhane's fans gathered outside the court to celebrate the verdict, while riot police guarded the road leading to the court to prevent them from entering.

Sandeep Lamichhane has been playing cricket for Nepal for a long time. This spinner has taken a total of 112 wickets in 51 One Day International matches so far. Talking about T20, Sandeep has taken 98 wickets in his account after playing 52 matches. This player has shown his talent in foreign leagues also. He has been a part of the Delhi Capitals team during the Indian Premier League. He has also played in Australia's T20 league Big Bash.
