Regarding this matter, the Government of India (CERT-In) has warned smartphone or laptop users about USB charger scam. According to the latest report of CERT-In, the agency of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology of the Government of India to deal with cyber security incidents, has revealed that cyber criminals are setting up airports, cafes, hotels, bus stands and other public places for malicious activities. What is the danger?
Scammers install malicious hardware or software at public charging points, enabling them to extract sensitive information such as passwords, addresses and bank details from unsuspecting users. When you plug-in your device to such dangerous charging station, software or hardware can steal data from your device.

What's more dangerous is that hackers can also inject malware, which allows scammers to take control of your device. Once they have control, criminals can demand ransom to grant access.

How to protect yourself from USB charger scam?
Cert-In has given some advice so that juice jacking can be avoided.
-It is better to use an electrical wall outlet to charge your mobile device.
-Try to carry your own cable or power bank.
-Lock your mobile device and disable pairing with connected devices.
-Use USB data blockers to block access to ports on removable storage devices.
Always keep the phone software up to date.
