New Delhi : The results of the Lok Sabha elections have shocked the entire country. These results are completely different from the exit poll estimates. This result can be attributed to the opposition's 'Samvidhan Bachao' or 'Save the Constitution' election campaign. It suppressed many common issues. Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis blamed the opposition's 'BJP will change the constitution' campaign for the defeat of NDA candidates in many seats.

Fadnavis held him responsible

Fadnavis tweeted that the unfortunate outcome of the election results is that the opposition tried to win seats by campaigning that we will change the Constitution. But the mandate of the people in the elections has to be accepted as it is. We will do deep introspection and compensate for our defeat in the next assembly elections. Rahul Gandhi had cleverly argued in his election campaign that if the BJP wins more than 400 seats, he will amend the Constitution to end reservation.

BJP had retaliated

In response to Rahul Gandhi's statement, the BJP had launched a counter-attack. The BJP accused the Congress and its allies of weakening the Constitution by proposing reservation for Muslims while religion-based quotas are unconstitutional. Prime Minister Modi had challenged Rahul Gandhi, who often dramatically displays a copy of the Constitution at his rallies, to give an undertaking in writing that the Congress would never attempt to implement a Muslim quota. As the heated debate continued, the Constitution became a central issue.

Important topics after 1977

There was so much debate on this issue that for the first time after the 1977 elections, the Constitution became an important issue in the elections. The 1977 elections had become a referendum on Indira Gandhi's decision to suspend democracy in the North. After the election results were announced, Rahul Gandhi again raised the slogan of Save the Constitution in his victory speech. The Congress leader said that the people of India have saved the Constitution and democracy. The deprived and poor population of the country is standing with India to protect their rights. Congratulations to all the allies of the alliance and the lion-like workers of the Congress Party.

Modi will become prime minister for the third time

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has secured a third term. However, the BJP will have to rely on the support of other parties in its alliance – JDU chief Nitish Kumar and TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu. In this election, the BJP has fallen short of the majority figure of 272 by 32 seats. This is a big setback for the BJP as well as the Prime Minister. PM Modi had given the slogan 'Abki Baar, 400 Paar'. For the first time since coming to power in 2014, the Bharatiya Janata Party has not got a majority on its own. This time the BJP has got 63 seats less than the record 303 seats it got in the 2019 elections.
