Earlier, the BCCI had contacted former Team India opener Gautam Gambhir and Australian legend Ricky Ponting, but Ponting has turned down the Indian board's offer. Gambhir is currently coaching the KKR team. In such a situation, it is expected that Gambhir can take a decision on this after the IPL final.

On this tweet of Michael Vaughan, a user wrote, 'Why not. Bring a classy cricketer and a great captain. The records speak. The 2005 Ashes series is still in my mind.' Another user wrote – 'Confidence.' Pakistani journalist trolled Michael Vaughan. Pakistani journalist Farid Khan wrote, 'Michael, they want a coach who has scored at least one century in ODIs.'

How much salary does Indian coach get?
The salary has not been mentioned in the applications issued by BCCI for the coach. But currently BCCI is paying Rahul Dravid around Rs 10 crore annually as salary. This means that Dravid's monthly salary is around Rs 8.34 lakh. According to media reports, earlier BCCI used to pay Ravi Shastri Rs 9.5 crore annually.
