Former captain of Chennai Super Kings team Mahendra Singh Dhoni had handed over the command of the team to Rituraj Gaikwad even before the start of the season. After playing 14 league matches, the team managed to reach 14 points by winning 7. RCB won the playoff battle on the basis of net run rate. In a do or die match, Bangalore team had set a target of 219 runs, in response to which Chennai team could reach only 191 runs.
