Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Saturday said that two toll plazas on the Ludhiana-Barnala state highway will be closed from April 2. He said that due to the end of the concession period, Rakba (near Mullanpur in Ludhiana) and Mehal Kalan (near Barnala) toll plazas will stop their operations on April 2. Dakha-Halwara-Raikot-Barnala State Highway located in Ludhiana district is 57.94 kilometers long.

The hassle of Fastag and toll plaza is over, satellite based toll system is coming, Nitin Gadkari made a big announcement.

Punjab government had given permission in 2007
The Punjab government had approved a Build, Operate and Transfer (BOT) scheme in 2007 to improve the highway. For this project, an agreement was signed with Rohan Rajdeep Tollways Limited for 17 years. Now after the expiry of this agreement, the government has announced its closure.

What did CM Mann say?
CM Mann said that the company had requested to extend the toll operation by 448 days citing the Covid pandemic and farmers' agitation, but the Punjab government rejected it. “Both toll plazas will stop their operations and will not collect any toll from the public,” he said in a post on Twitter. He said that his government is not there to give undue benefits to the capitalists and no one will be allowed to loot the general public after the toll operating period is over. The Mann government has closed 10 toll plazas at various places in the state in the last two years.
