The person whom Team India kept on the bench, broke a 52 year old record as soon as he came on the field, scored a double century.

New Delhi. In the two-Test series played between India and Bangladesh, a player was a member of his team in both the matches, but he did not get a chance to play. This player has scored a double century as soon as he got the chance. This player is none other than Sarfaraz Khan. Sarfaraz Khan played a brilliant inning of 221 runs in the Irani Cup. With this he has broken the 52-year-old record of highest score by any Mumbaikar in the Irani Cup.

Sarfaraz Khan was included in the Indian team for the Test series against Bangladesh. When Sarfaraz was not included in the playing eleven of the Kanpur Test, he was allowed to play in the Irani Cup. The Irani Cup is being played between Ranji champions Mumbai and Rest of India. Batting first in the match, Mumbai scored 536 runs for 9 wickets.

The Irani Cup match between Mumbai and Rest of India started on Tuesday. Mumbai scored 237 runs for four wickets on the first day. On the second day of the match, captain Ajinkya Rahane led the innings with 86 runs and Sarfaraz Khan led the innings with 54 runs. Rahane was out within some time. He missed his century by three runs. But Sarfaraz Khan did not waste this opportunity. He not only converted his half-century into a century, but also converted it into a double century.

With this, Sarfaraz Khan has become the batsman who played the biggest innings for Mumbai in the Irani Cup. He has broken the record of Ramnath Parker's best score. Ramnath Parker played an inning of 195 runs against Rest of India in 1972. Sarfaraz has scored 221 runs in 276 balls in his record-breaking innings. He hit 25 fours and 4 sixes in this innings and is still unbeaten. However, it is unlikely that Mumbai will bat on the third day also. There is every possibility that Mumbai may announce the end of the innings and call the rest of India to bat.
