Chennai. Before the ICC T20 World Cup, some cricketers are showing their strength. He is staking his claim for a place in his country's team with a strong performance. Despite Cricket Australia (CA) not getting the central contract for the 2024-25 season, all-rounder Marcus Stoinis did not give up. He wants to use the century scored against Chennai Super Kings to extend his white-ball career ahead of the upcoming T20 World Cup.

Stoinis has not been included in Australia's 23-member central contract list of players. He played an unbeaten inning of 124 runs in 63 balls against Lucknow Super Giants on Tuesday, 23 April. Stoinis does not pay much attention to his exclusion from the CA contract, which was announced on March 28.

Stoinis said after the six-wicket win over Chennai Super Kings, “I have a good relationship with Australia coach Andrew McDonald. I was aware of not getting the contract. I think it's a good thing to give opportunities to young players and let them take my place. Giving my place in the contract list doesn't make much difference.

But this 34 year old player does not want any change in his career with the national team. He said, “But as far as playing is concerned, I definitely want to make sure.” I want to be in the team and that's why this tournament (IPL) is very lucky for us and especially for me, that's why I like it so much.

Single-handedly fought with the entire Chennai team, snatched the victory from their jaws, Stoinis scored a century and gave victory to Lucknow.

Perth-born Stoinis was dropped from Australia's ODI team against the West Indies in January. He is set to be a part of the country's T20 International World Cup campaign in West Indies and America in June. Stoinis is likely to be played at the fifth position in the Australian team during the T20 World Cup.

Stoinis will be eligible for Australian selection for the tournament as his current contract for the 2023-24 season runs till June 30. Stoinis was quite clear that he wanted to play for Australia in the white-ball series against England in September and Pakistan at home in November.
