Taiwan's Ministry of National Defense (MND) on Friday detected eight Chinese aircraft and eight People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) ships in the vicinity of Taiwan.

Chinese aircraft and ships were sighted till 6 am on Friday.

In a post shared on Twitter, Taiwan's MND said an aircraft crossed the median line and entered Taiwan's Northern Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ).

However, Taiwan's armed forces have responded to the situation accordingly.

“As of 6am today (UTC+8), 8 PLA aircraft and 8 PLAN ships operating in the vicinity of Taiwan were detected. 1 of the aircraft crossed the median line and entered Taiwan's northern ADIZ. #ROCArmedForces have monitored the situation and responded accordingly,” Taiwan's MND said.

Earlier on Thursday, Taiwan had detected 27 Chinese aircraft and seven naval vessels around the strait as of 6 am Thursday (local time).

Taiwan's Ministry of National Defense (MND) said the 19 aircraft crossed the midline of the Taiwan Strait and entered Taiwan's southwestern area and eastern air defense identification zone (ADIZ).

On 15 May, 45 PLA aircraft and 6 PLAN ships were found active around Taiwan. 26 aircraft crossed the median line and entered Taiwan's northern and southwestern ADIZ.

The increase in activity in the Taiwan Strait area comes amid rising geopolitical tensions between Taiwan and China, Taiwan News reports.

Taiwan has long been a point of contention for Beijing, which considers the island a rebel province and has repeatedly expressed its intention to reunite it with the mainland, even if by force.

Taiwan's Ministry of National Defense (MND) has issued daily reports on Chinese military activities for the past few years, including identifying Chinese aircraft, drones and balloons that have been found crossing the Taiwan Strait midline and approaching Taiwan Are.
