Karachi: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi reacted strongly after the defeat against India in the T20 World Cup and said that there is a need to make changes in the team led by Babar Azam. In the match played against India in New York, Pakistan had a target of 120 runs but its team could score only 113 runs for seven wickets. Earlier, it had to face defeat from America as well.
According to Pakistani media, Naqvi said in New York, “I used to think that some changes are needed in the team to win the match but now it seems that changes will have to be made in the team. Naqvi also said that now there is a need to focus on those players who have been out of the team for some time. He said, “The way we have lost the match against America and now against India is very disappointing. We will now have to focus on those players who are not in the team at the moment.”
Naqvi said, “Everyone is asking why the team is not performing well. The World Cup is still on but we certainly need to look at everything. To make it to the Super 8s, Pakistan will have to win the next two matches against Canada and Ireland by big margins and also hope that the results of other teams go in their favour.”
In the T20 World Cup 2024, 20 teams have been divided into four groups of 5 each. 2 teams from each group will qualify for the Super-8 stage. Anyone can get a maximum of 8 points in the group. Only America and India have reached 4 points from Group A. On the other hand, Pakistan's team has played 2 matches. But it has 0 points in its account. To qualify, it will have to win both the matches, it will also depend on how its net run rate remains.
