First allegation- How is NEET cut off 2024 so high?

This is the first time since the National Entrance cum Eligibility Test (NEET) for medical admission was started that the cutoff has gone so high. In response to this, NTA has said- 'NEET cutoff depends on the overall performance of the candidates. The increase in cutoff means that the exam was competitive and the children performed better.'

This has been the NEET cutoff in previous years

Year Average marks of NEET pass candidates NEET Qualifying Marks for General
2020 297.18 147
2021 286.13 138
2022 259 117
2023 279.41 137
2024 323.55 164

Second allegation- How did you get the numbers 719 and 718?

The total marks of NEET are 720. Each question is of 4 marks. 1 mark is deducted for each wrong answer. If a student answers all the questions correctly, he will get 720 marks out of 720. If he does not answer any question, he will get 716 marks. If he gets one question wrong, he should get 715 marks. But how can he get 718 or 719?

In response to this, it is said on nta.ac.in that- 'Several petitions were filed in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh High Court, in which students complained about the wastage of time at some centers in the examination held on May 5. After CCTV footage and investigation, NTA found that there was no fault of the candidates in this. In such a situation, on the basis of the Supreme Court's decision of 13 June 2018, those children were given compensation marks for the wastage of time. The two candidates who got 718 and 719 marks are among them.'

Third allegation- How come 6 NEET toppers are from the same exam centre?

In the NEET topper list PDF, the roll number series of 6 candidates are the same. That means their NEET exam center was the same. Out of these, 4 got a total of 720, 1 got 719 and 1 got 718 marks. Allegations were made that some irregularities were definitely done at that center. In response to this, NTA has said-

'13,373 challenges were received on a Physics question in NEET answer key 2024. This happened due to new and old NCERT book. Subject experts declared two options correct instead of one. Out of 67 toppers, 44 were given NEET compensatory marks for revised answer key and 6 for lost time. NEET toppers have come from all over the country.'

Fourth allegation- NEET paper leak 2024 case

News of NEET paper leak started coming from the day of the exam. Investigation started in other states including Bihar, which is still going on. But NTA had then rejected these allegations. Now the National Testing Agency has said-

'NTA has registered cases against the violators. Some cases have also been registered with the state police. Wherever required, NTA is extending full cooperation to these investigating agencies in matters of NEET UG 2024 cases. However, the results of these investigations are yet to come. NTA denies any case of paper leak.'
