'PM has time for everything except Manipur…' Congress leader Jairam Ramesh again targeted PM Modi

New Delhi: The Congress on Sunday accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of not finding time to visit violence-hit Manipur yet, with party general secretary Jairam Ramesh reminding him of the drama surrounding Chief Minister N. Biren Singh's resignation last year. “Exactly a year ago, there was a big resignation drama in Imphal. Manipur's pain and suffering continue. The non-biological Prime Minister has time for everything except visiting the troubled state or talking face-to-face with its elected representatives,” Congress leader Jairam Ramesh said in a post on X, sharing a photo of Chief Minister Singh's torn resignation.
In May last year, the Kuki tribals had taken out a solidarity march in the hill districts demanding Scheduled Tribe status for the Meitei community. After which ethnic violence broke out in Manipur. Amidst the ongoing violent incidents in the state, Singh had tried to resign from the post of Chief Minister in June last year, but his supporters stopped him from doing so. Hundreds of women formed a human chain and stopped him from going to the Governor's house and submitting his resignation. The women also tore the resignation letter.

Even before this, the Congress General Secretary had attacked the PM

Let us tell you that a few months before the Lok Sabha elections, in an interview given to 'The Assam Tribune' newspaper, he spoke openly about the situation in Manipur. PM Modi had said that I have already spoken about this in Parliament. We have dedicated our best resources and administrative machinery to resolve the conflict. Due to the timely intervention of the Government of India and the efforts of the Manipur government, the situation in the state has improved a lot. However, the opposition had also raised questions on this statement of PM Modi. Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh had targeted PM Modi at that time and said that it is insulting and shameless for the BJP to claim that the Prime Minister has saved Manipur. Hundreds of people were killed and lakhs of people were displaced. An atmosphere of fear and terror prevails and communities are living separately.
