Vamana (weight related problems): Dr. Shachi Srivastava explains that, in this treatment, for the first few days, the patient is given oil and fomentation treatment internally and externally. After the toxins dissolve and accumulate in the upper cavities of the body, emetic medicines and decoctions are given to the patient. It induces vomiting and helps the body remove toxins from the tissues. Weight gain, asthma and hyper acidity are examples of Kapha predominant diseases for which Vamana chikitsa is recommended. Virechana (stomach related problems): In Virechana, the intestines are cleaned to purify or destroy toxic elements. In this, the patient is oiled and fomented from inside and outside. After this the patient is given a natural laxative, which helps in removing toxins from the body. Nasya (for mental illnesses): In this therapy, light massage and fomentation are given to the head and shoulder areas at the beginning of the session. After this, oil or ghee is poured into the nostrils. This action works to clean the brain area. Basti (beneficial in arthritis): According to Ayurvedacharya, in this therapy some Ayurvedic decoction is kept inside the body. Which includes oil, ghee or milk. This medicine works well for Vata predominant conditions like arthritis, piles and constipation. (Image-Canva)
