As hosts, India and Sri Lanka are sure to get direct entry into the tournament. India has already reached the Super-8. In such a situation, it does not need to resort to this rule to qualify. Sri Lanka is out of this tournament. It will play the next tournament with the help of this rule. In this way, now the names of 9 out of 12 teams have almost been announced. The remaining three teams will be selected according to their ICC T20 rankings.

Somehow reached Pakistan-New Zealand

After the 9 teams coming out of this tournament and playing the next tournament, the current ICC ranking of all the remaining teams is below the ranking of Pakistan and New Zealand.
