Mercury continuously crosses 44 degrees in Delhi

The maximum temperature in the national capital remained 44 degrees for the second consecutive day. Heat wave conditions persisted for four days in many areas of Delhi. There was a slight drop in temperature on Monday, but it did not have much effect. Now the heat wave is expected to increase further from Tuesday. The Meteorological Department has issued a red alert of heat wave till May 24. The maximum temperature can be 46 degrees on 24th and 25th May. Over the course of two decades, the temperature reached 46 degrees only once in May 2020. This means Delhi may face heat on May 25, when people in the national capital turn out to vote in the Lok Sabha elections. An IMD official said no major change in weather conditions is expected. Delhi NCR has once again recorded extreme heat and it will continue for the next few days. According to IMD, heat wave was recorded in Safdarjung for four days in May 2022. However, some areas on the outskirts experienced mild to severe heat wave for eight days.
