Know about Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region
The Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region is the only ministry that has territorial jurisdiction. This ministry is responsible for planning, implementation and monitoring of development schemes and projects in the North Eastern region. It is also important because the states of the Northeast are also very important in terms of international borders. Arunachal Pradesh shares its border with Bhutan, China and Myanmar. Assam shares its border with Bangladesh and Bhutan. Manipur shares its border with Myanmar, Meghalaya shares its border with Bangladesh, Mizoram shares its border with Bangladesh and Myanmar, Nagaland shares its border with Myanmar, Sikkim shares its border with Bhutan, China and Nepal.
Special focus on vibrant village program
The Vibrant Village program was started in the previous government to bring development to the border villages. Many villages situated on the China border in Arunachal Pradesh have been identified as Vibrant Villages. In the first phase, some construction work has been done in the villages identified as a priority. The biggest challenge before the ministry will be to bring real development in these Vibrant Villages. The people of these border villages expect a better life as well as good English medium schools and better phone and internet network. Internet connectivity is still very poor in many border areas, which will have to be worked upon. The situation in Manipur has remained tense since the beginning of ethnic violence between two communities. Normalizing the situation there and winning the trust of the people and resuming development work will also be a challenge for the ministry.
