New Delhi : The assets of 324 MPs contesting again in the Lok Sabha elections have increased by an average of 43 percent in the last five years. The Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) has said this in a report based on its analysis of the last five years. According to the report, the average assets of these MPs in 2019 was around Rs 21.55 crore, while in the current election cycle the value of average assets has increased 'significantly' to Rs 30.88 crore, showing an increase of Rs 9.33 crore in the last five years. It analyzes the increase in the assets of MPs contesting again in the 2024 general elections.

Voting for the seventh and final phase of the Lok Sabha elections will be held on June 1 and counting of votes will take place on June 4. ADR said that the assets of these 324 MPs have increased by an average of 43 per cent between the 2019 and 2024 elections.

According to the report, among the major parties, the average assets of 183 Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MPs re-contesting saw an increase of 39.18 per cent (from Rs 18.40 crore to Rs 25.61 crore), while the assets of 36 Congress MPs re-contesting saw an increase of 48.76 per cent (from Rs 44.13 crore to Rs 65.64 crore).

The assets of 10 Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) MPs, who are contesting again, have increased by 19.96 per cent (from Rs 30.93 crore to Rs 37.10 crore), eight Shiv Sena MPs have increased by 48.13 per cent (from Rs 19.77 crore to Rs 29.28 crore), five Samajwadi Party (SP) MPs have increased their assets by 20.53 per cent (from Rs 20.56 crore to Rs 24.78 crore) and eight Yuvajana Sramika Raithu Congress Party (YSRCP) MPs have increased their assets by 84.13 per cent (from Rs 28.66 crore to Rs 52.78 crore).

According to the report, the average increase in assets of 16 Trinamool Congress MPs contesting again has been 53.84 per cent (from Rs 15.69 crore to Rs 24.15 crore), assets of 11 Janata Dal (United) MPs have increased by 35.54 per cent (from Rs 4.55 crore to Rs 6.17 crore), assets of one Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) MP have increased by 14.34 per cent (from Rs 12 crore to Rs 14 crore), assets of three Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MPs have increased by 52.94 per cent (from Rs 38 crore to Rs 59 crore), assets of three NCP MPs (Sharad Chandra Pawar) have increased by 21.05 per cent (from Rs 48 crore to Rs 58 crore) and assets of one Janata Dal (Secular) MP have increased by 317 per cent (from Rs 9 crore to Rs 40 crore).

The average increase in assets of re-contesting MPs of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) was 25.37 per cent (from Rs 8.46 crore to Rs 10.61 crore), for Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) it was 68.4 per cent (from Rs 7.01 crore to Rs 11.80 crore), for Biju Janata Dal it was 184.02 per cent (from Rs 2.41 crore to Rs 6.85 crore), for Telugu Desam Party it was 143.2 per cent (from Rs 18.90 crore to Rs 45.97 crore), for Indian Union Muslim League it was 104.9 per cent (from Rs 13.07 crore to Rs 26.78 crore) and for Sikkim Krantikari Morcha it was 3000.51 per cent (from Rs 4.78 lakh to Rs 1.48 crore), ADR said.

It said the average increase in assets of re-contesting MPs of All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen was 35.12 per cent (from Rs 10.43 crore to Rs 14.09 crore) and in the case of Communist Party of India (Marxist), it was 97.61 per cent (from Rs 85.40 lakh to Rs 1.68 crore).

The report said that in case of Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi, the increase was 117.36 per cent and the assets of re-contesting MPs of Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) witnessed a marginal decline of three per cent.
