new zealandAre you dreaming of traveling? Then this news is for you. From 26 June 2024, New Zealand has made some changes to its visa rules, which may cause problems for some foreign workers and their families. The good thing is that these changes have been made to simplify the visa application process, which may make the way to New Zealand a little easier for you.
But, one important change is that people who have an “Accredited Employer Work Visa” (AEWV) of ANZSCO skill level 4 or 5, that too without any residence, will no longer be able to sponsor their partner and children on a work, visitor or student visa. In simple terms, New Zealand now wants to grant visas to people who have a solid plan to stay there, such as a good job or an intention to stay there in the future. Let us tell you a little more information below. (All photo credit: pexels.com)

There have been changes in visa rules

If you are thinking of going to New Zealand, then let us tell you that the visa rules there have changed. For more information about this, you can visit the official website of New Zealand Immigration. On the other hand, if we talk about the changing visa rules in New Zealand, then if your partner is working in a company there on a work visa, then now he cannot sponsor a work visa for you. But this applies only to those people whose work visa is of a special type, which is called “Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV)”. That too only when their job comes under ANZSCO Level 4 or 5 and there is no way to get residency.

Children can apply

But the good news is that you and your children can apply for a visa on your own. Yes, both of you can try for an “Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV)” or an International Student Visa. You just have to meet the necessary conditions for it.

These rules will not apply to these people

The good thing is that these new rules will not apply to those who are already living in New Zealand on a partner or dependent visa. Also, if your visa application is still pending, you don't have to worry. Your application will be processed under the same rules that were in place when you applied.

Visa can be given on this basis

If you applied for visas for your family before 26 June 2024, you can still sponsor them under certain conditions. These conditions also apply if your partner or child already has a visa based on their relationship with you, or if their work, visitor or student visa application was in progress before the rule change and was later approved.

You have to provide proof and then you will get visa

If you are an AEWV holder with ANZSCO skill level 4 or 5 and your earnings are less than $47.41 New Zealand dollars per hour, you can still sponsor a visa for your partner or children. On the other hand, if you are on a worker visa and want to sponsor a worker visa for your partner, you must earn at least $29.66 New Zealand dollars per hour. For a Worker Visitor Visa or Dependent Child Student Visa for children, you must show proof of earning at least $43,322.76 New Zealand dollars annually.

This much should be your earning

If you want to work in New Zealand and bring your partner with you, you must earn more than $29.66 per hour. This rule will apply to those applying for a partner visa after 26 June 2024. If you earn less than this, don't panic! You can get a worker visitor visa for your partner. Additionally, if you earn more than $59.32 per hour or your job is on the Green List and you have the required qualifications for that particular role, you can also apply for an open work visa.
