New Delhi. Kolkata Knight Riders have performed brilliantly in this season of the Indian Premier League. Even before the tournament started, franchise co-owner Shah Rukh Khan had roped in Gautam Gambhir as a mentor to the team. This legend has won the trophy twice for KKR as captain. The player he bet on in the auction before IPL 2024 showed his talent even before the final and did wonders in the final.

Everyone was waiting for the IPL final to be played between Kolkata Knight Riders and Sunrisers Hyderabad. Both the teams performed brilliantly this season and made it to the mega final. In the match, Sunrisers captain Pat Cummins won the toss and decided to bat first. Kolkata's star fast bowler Mitchell Starc wreaked havoc as soon as he came. In the first over, he clean bowled Abhishek Sharma, one of the most dangerous batsmen, and then dismissed Rahul Tripathi.

Gambhir was determined, he placed a high bid
Gautam Gambhir had tried his best to include Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc in the Kolkata team. In the auction, the KKR mentor bid Rs 24.75 crore for this player. This was the highest amount received by any player in the history of the tournament.

Mitchell Starr did not have a good start to this season but as the playoffs came closer, he picked up his pace. After playing 14 matches for Kolkata this season, he took a total of 17 wickets. In the final, he took a wicket in the first over and then took a wicket in the next over as well.
