The Border Security Force (BSF) on Saturday said it has seized a Chinese-made drone with a packet of 500 grams of heroin near the India-Pakistan border in Punjab's Amritsar district.
Acting on a tip-off, BSF troops conducted a massive search operation in the suspicious area.
BSF Punjab Frontier said that around 4.45 pm on Friday, the troops successfully recovered a drone with a packet of suspected heroin of 500 grams.
The packet was wrapped in yellow adhesive tape and a small flashlight was also found attached to the drone.
This recovery took place in the fields adjacent to Nestha village, about 300 km from Chandigarh.
The recovered drone is a China-made DJI Mavic 3 Classic.
Credible inputs and prompt action of BSF troops once again successfully foiled an illegal attempt to smuggle narcotics through drones from across the border, BSF said.
The BSF, responsible for guarding the 553-km long diverse, difficult and challenging India-Pakistan border in Punjab, said in 2023 that it had detected and shot down 107 drones and seized 442.395 kg of heroin.
Besides, seizing 23 weapons and 505 rounds of ammunition, BSF killed three Pakistani infiltrators in separate incidents, apprehended 23 Pakistani nationals including two smugglers, 14 Bangladeshi nationals and 95 Indian suspects including 35 smugglers.
Last year, BSF troops of Punjab Frontier handed over 12 Pakistani nationals, who had unknowingly crossed the international border, to Pakistan Rangers.
Facing innumerable challenges including inclement weather conditions and incidents of smuggling, BSF soldiers are guarding the borders with indomitable dedication round the clock.
