Professor Rebecca Fitzgerald, Director of the Early Cancer Institute, said, cancer can take a long time to develop. Sometimes it takes 10 to 20 years to develop. After this, suddenly symptoms of cancer emerge in the patient every day. After this the doctor examines and sees how far the cancer cells have spread. Then efforts are made to fix it through many methods which cost lakhs. In such a situation, we need different methods and hence we have found a method in which we can detect the possibility of cancer years in advance.

FitzGeralt's team created the CytoSponge tablet years ago to test cancer. A coat is applied over it. When this pill is swallowed, its outer coat melts in the stomach. After this the sponge of the pill spreads in the stomach. This exposes the cells of the intestinal wall which are pulled out with a machine. Now these cells are tested. If TFF3 protein is found in these cells, it means that the person is at risk of getting cancer at some point. Such people need to be kept under special surveillance. This protein is visible only in pre-cancerous conditions. However, only doctors can tell who needs it and who does not. This test is not done on one's own mind.
