An official statement said on Friday that those calling themselves as officials of the Department of Telecommunications and threatening to disconnect the connections are fake and their aim is to steal people's personal information and commit financial fraud. The Department of Telecommunications also cautioned people about WhatsApp calls coming from mobile numbers of foreign origin.

According to the statement, “The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has issued an advisory to the citizens that people are receiving such phone calls in which callers in the name of the Department of Telecommunications are threatening that all their mobile numbers will be blocked.
