New York. Indian captain Rohit Sharma scored a brilliant half-century against Ireland in the T20 World Cup. Rohit's 52-run innings ended not because he was out but because he retired hurt. Rohit was upset with this and questioned the 'drop in' pitch of the Nassau County Ground. India now has to play against Pakistan on June 9.

India achieved the target in 12.2 overs after restricting Ireland to 96 runs in 16 overs. Rohit scored 52 runs in 37 balls. During this, Rohit missed playing a pull shot on a short pitch ball of Irish pacer Josh Little and the ball hit his upper arm. After this he had to leave the field.

Rohit Sharma said about the injury, 'It is a minor injury. I had also said at the time of toss that I don't know what this pitch will be like.' He said, 'New ground, new venue. We wanted to see what it feels like to play here. I think the pitch has not settled yet and was helping the bowlers a lot. In such a situation, it was important to stick to your basics and remember Test match bowling.'

For India, Hardik Pandya took three wickets for 27 runs. Arshdeep Singh took two wickets for 35 runs. Jasprit Bumrah took two wickets for six runs in three overs. Mohammad Siraj and Akshar Patel got one wicket each.

Rohit Sharma said after the match, 'Arshdeep is an expert in creating rhythm by swinging the ball in front of right-handed batsmen. I don't think four spinners can be fielded on such a ground. They will play only if the conditions are favorable for the fast bowlers. The spinners will do their job later in the tournament. We will make changes according to the needs of the team.'

Talking about preparations for the match against Pakistan, Rohit said, “I don't know what to expect from the pitch. We will prepare thinking that the pitch will remain the same. The whole team will have to perform well in that match. Hopefully, like today, the performance will be good in that match as well.”
