On the last Friday of May, the box office returned to life after a long time which was sluggish for the last two months. According to experts, a large number of viewers reached the cinema halls on this day because they got a chance to watch a movie in the multiplex for just Rs 99 on the occasion of Cinema Lovers Day. Otherwise, for a long time, cinema owners were not only reducing their shows but some cinema halls were also showing old films. It is believed that despite selling tickets for just Rs 99, the collection of all the films released in cinema halls last Friday crossed double digits, which is being considered a good sign for the box office. Last Friday, after a long time, all the films together earned more than Rs 10 crore at the box office. How much the magic of getting tickets at cheap rates worked on the audience can be gauged from the fact that Rajkumar Rao and Janhvi Kapoor's film 'Mr. and Mrs. Mahi' beat this year's highest grossing film 'Fighter' in terms of advance booking. 1.45 lakh advance tickets of 'Mr. and Mrs. Mahi' were sold at the multiplex chain. Similarly, the record of the third biggest advance booking of this year is also in the name of the film 'Article 370' released on Cinema Day in February. 1.25 lakh advance tickets of this film were sold.

People spend their money wisely

Along with the reduction in the price of cinema tickets, it is also important that the content of the films is also good. For example, all the three films released this week, 'Mr. and Mrs. Mahi', 'Saavi' and 'Chhota Bheem' have received decent reviews. This is the reason why the audience is coming to watch all three films. However, film trade analyst Taran Adarsh believes that in a country like India, people spend money very thoughtfully. Therefore, cinema owners should keep the prices of food items low along with tickets. He wrote on social media, 'Keep the price of tickets low and also control the price of food items. Actually, India is such a market where one has to think a lot about the price of things. Here people spend money very thoughtfully. Cinema Lovers Day is a great example of this, where the price of tickets has come down, while on the other hand the box office which was cold for a long time has become buzzing again. The audience has returned to the cinemas overnight. The only way to increase the sale of tickets is to reduce their prices. Also, to increase the number of visitors, the exhibition sector has to control the prices of food items. Obviously, to attract people to the cinema, the prices of tickets and food items should be within budget along with the films being good.

'Tickets of medium budget films should be cheaper'

Regarding the return of the cinema halls after a long time, producer and film business analyst Girish Johar says, 'After a long time, there was a lot of activity at the box office last Friday. I think there are three things behind this. Firstly, the biggest reason for the audience returning to the cinema is the low price of cinema tickets. The second reason is that the elections and IPL are also over. The third reason for the audience returning to the cinema is the content of the film. If the price of cinema tickets is low and the film is not strong, then also the audience does not come to the cinema. You will remember that earlier in February when Cinema Day was celebrated, two films Article 370 and Crack were released. The content of Article 370 was good, so the film earned more than 80 crores. But due to weak content, Crack could barely cross the double digit mark. I believe that cinema people need to keep ticket prices under control in the future as well. Especially the ticket prices of medium budget films with good content should not be very high. Otherwise, the audience waits for those films to release on OTT instead of going to the theatres to watch them. They should wait for mega budget films of big stars so that the price of tickets increases.
