Advanced navigation system, 22 interceptor boats… this decision of the government will increase the strength of the Indian Army


New Delhi: The Defence Ministry on Monday approved the procurement of 22 Land Navigation Systems (ALNS) for the Indian Army's armoured fighting vehicles (AFVs) and 22 Interceptor Boats for the Coast Guard. The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), headed by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, approved the acquisition proposals. The cost of procurement of the Land Navigation Systems and Interceptor Boats was not immediately available.

The DAC also deliberated on several other procurement proposals, the Defence Ministry said without giving details. “Procurement of Advanced Land Navigation System (ALNS) for Armoured Fighting Vehicles (AFVs) of Indian Army has been approved,” the ministry said.

The equipment will be procured from Chennai-based Bharat Electronics Limited, the ministry said in a statement. The purchase will be made under the indigenously designed, developed and manufactured (IDDM) category. The ministry said it has also approved a proposal to procure 22 interceptor boats for the Coast Guard.

The Defence Ministry said that this will help in enhancing the capabilities of the Indian Coast Guard. The DAC has provided AON for the purchase of 22 interceptor boats equipped with state-of-the-art systems. These boats will be used for medical emergencies, coastal surveillance, patrolling, special operations and relief rescue operations. In the last few years, the army has executed many important projects.

This meeting was held on 29 July under the chairmanship of Defense Minister Rajnath Singh in which various capital acquisition proposals were considered. This step was taken by the government in the direction of making the Indian Army stronger.
