Cough and cold can occur with the change in weather. This is a very common problem. But despite being common, it troubles the patient a lot. Usually cough and cold gets cured on its own in 7-12 days. But sometimes it keeps bothering for more days than this.

Apart from medicines, there are some home remedies which can help in curing this problem. Let us know which home remedies can be adopted to cure the problem of cough and cold.

Honey and lemon

It is an excellent remedy for cough. Mix a teaspoon of honey and freshly squeezed lemon juice in a glass of warm water or herbal tea to get relief from sore throat and cough. The antibacterial properties of honey also help prevent infections.

Ginger has anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial properties, which are very beneficial in cold and cough. Make ginger tea by boiling a few slices of ginger in hot water for a few minutes. You can also add honey and lemon to it to enhance the taste and effect. Ginger tea reduces inflammation of the throat and removes stiffness, making breathing easier.

Inhaling steam is an effective remedy to clear a blocked nose and reduce throat irritation. Boil water in a vessel and carefully bend over it, covering the head with a towel so that the steam does not escape. Breathe deeply for a few minutes so that the steam reaches the nose and lungs. You can add a few drops of essential oil like eucalyptus or peppermint to it, which will further help in reducing congestion.

Gargling with salt water is a simple and effective remedy for sore throat and cough. Dissolve half a teaspoon of salt in a glass of warm water and gargle for 30 seconds, then spit it out. Gargling with salt water reduces inflammation, thins mucus and kills bacteria in the throat, relieving cough and irritation.
