If seen, inter-religious marriage is not a new thing in Bollywood. But now in the age of social media, trolls are ahead in targeting such marriages.

Hindu or Muslim, love is free
Recently, Sonakshi Sinha and Zaheer Sheikh proved these lines of famous poet-lyricist Sahir Ludhianvi true by marrying inter-religiously and trolls and haters started trolling and taunting them on social media in such a way that after the marriage, these people had to close the comment section. Although this couple did not choose any religious customs for their marriage and chose the path of registered marriage, despite this the trolls called their marriage love-jihad. Memes were also made about father Shatrughan Sinha that 'a Muslim has entered the Ramayana (his residence).' Although there was a section on social media that was running #ShaadiMubarak, but for the last few days this marriage is being highlighted a lot on social media. Inter-religious marriages have always been happening in Bollywood. After Sunil Dutt-Nargis, there are many examples like Shahrukh Khan-Gauri Khan, Saif Ali Khan-Kareena Kapoor, Sanjay Dutt-Manyata Dutt, Ritesh Deshmukh-Genelia D'Souza, Kunal Khemu-Soha Ali Khan, who are happy in their marriage today. But in today's era, if someone like Sonakshi chooses this kind of marriage, she immediately becomes the target of trolls.

Whether they do court marriage or Nikah, it is their personal matter

Swara Bhaskar, who has a frank opinion on issues, has also been badly trolled for marrying Fahad Ahmed. She says, 'It is true that trolling, abusing, harassing people hiding behind a handle on social media is an attack on a person's privacy in today's era. Such marriages are not new, but today they are made an issue due to social media. When Fahad and I got married, we did not tell anyone, but when the photo was leaked after the wedding, we also faced a lot of trolling on social media at that time. However, there were many people who congratulated us. Fahad and I were lucky that we got the support of our family. The first witness out of the three witnesses in our Special Marriage Act marriage was my father. It was only with the support of our families that we were able to handle all the negativity of social media. In our country and society, an adult couple has complete legal freedom to take decisions about their personal life. Whom they marry, what rituals they follow, whether they do it in court or in a temple or through Nikah, it is their personal matter and I don't think anyone should have any opinion on it.

My in-laws had a Hindu-Muslim marriage fifty years ago

Actress Chhavi Mittal, who had an inter-religious marriage with director Mohit Hussain about 20 years ago, has also won the battle against breast cancer. She says, 'If we are public figures, it does not mean that social media should control our lives. Sonakshi Sinha and Zaheer's marriage is their personal choice. When Mohit and I got married, there was no social media at that time, so no one talked about our marriage that way. My in-laws had an inter-religious marriage 50 years ago. My mother-in-law is a Gujarati Jain and father-in-law is Muslim. I was from a traditional family, so the problem was within the family itself, but since our family is educated, my family met my husband Mohit and cleared all the doubts among themselves. In those days, we made everyone happy by getting married in three ways – registered marriage, Nikaah and Pheras. But I believe that if I had an inter-religious marriage today, it would not have been so easy. There was no internet and social media in our time.' In those days, there was more secularism. Today a lot has changed.

love is the universal religion

Indeed, a lot has changed nowadays. In the age of social media, celebs have to face a lot of pressure. Now Sonakshi's parents Shatrughan Sinha and Poonam Sinha also attended her wedding, but earlier when speculations were being made that Shatru would not attend the wedding, Shatru himself dismissed the rumours and said, 'I will definitely attend the wedding. Her happiness is my happiness. She has every right to decide her partner and other things related to her marriage.' Brother Kush also came forward and gave a statement that he was present at his sister's wedding. When trolls and haters started crossing their limits, Shatrughan Sinha had to break his silence and say in an interview, 'Anand Bakshi sahab has written about such professional protesters, 'Kuch toh log kahenge, logon ka kaam hai kehna, I would like to add to this that if the people who say are useless, useless, then saying is the work. My daughter has not done anything illegal or unconstitutional.' Sonakshi, who remained silent on the controversy over her marriage, has also indirectly given a befitting reply to the trolls. Graphic artist Prasad Bhatt recently shared a photo of Sonakshi and Zaheer and wrote, Love is a universal religion, congratulations to Sonakshi Sinha and Zaheer Iqbal for a happy life. Commenting on this post of Prasad, Sonakshi wrote, True words, this is very beautiful! Thank you
