Who is the first Indian to become ICC chairman? Who are the people who have held this responsibility

New Delhi. Board of Control for Cricket in India secretary Jai Shah will take over the reins of cricket's largest body, the International Cricket Council (ICC) at the end of the year. On Tuesday, 27 August, he was elected unopposed as ICC chairman. Jai Shah will become the youngest person to hold this position. The BCCI secretary will be the fifth Indian to lead the ICC. Earlier, four legends have held this responsibility.

The discussions going on for the last few days are now over. BCCI Secretary Jay Shah has been elected as the next chairman of the ICC. He has created history by being elected to this post. Jay Shah will now be the youngest chairman in the history of the ICC. He is set to take over this responsibility at the age of just 35. Jay Shah will take over this post on December 1, replacing 62-year-old Greg Barclay. Earlier, Jagmohan Dalmiya, Sharad Pawar, N Srinivasan and Shashank Manohar were the Indians who led the ICC.

Jagmohan Dalmia:

Jagmohan Dalmiya was the first Indian to make his mark in the ICC. Former BCCI president Jagmohan Dalmiya was elected ICC president in 1997. He held the post for three years. Jagmohan became the first Asian and non-cricketer to lead the ICC. It was during his presidency that Bangladesh got Test status.

Sharad Pawar:

Sharad Pawar was the second Indian to hold the post of ICC President. He assumed this responsibility in the year 2010. The former BCCI President held this post for two years. The journey from politics to the boss of the biggest cricket organization was not easy for him.

N. Srinivasan:

Former BCCI president and businessman N Srinivasan is the third Indian to become the ICC chief. He got this responsibility on 26 June 2014. Srinivas' tenure as ICC President was very short. He had to step down from the post in 2015 after Shashank Manohar was named as the ICC chief.

Shashank Manohar:

The longest-serving Indian in the ICC was Shashank Manohar. In November 2015, he was appointed ICC chairman in place of Srinivasan. On June 30, 2020, he resigned from his ICC position.

Jay Shah:

Current BCCI secretary Jay Shah was elected unopposed as the new ICC chairman on 27 August 2024. He will take charge on 1 December 2024.
