Who is Lieutenant General Upendra Dwivedi? Now he will take command of the army


New Delhi: Lieutenant General Upendra Dwivedi will be the next Army Chief. He will replace the current Army Chief General Manoj Pandey. The government announced his name on Tuesday night. General Pandey will retire on June 30. The government has followed the seniority order in the appointment of Lieutenant General Dwivedi. Just a few days ago, the government had extended General Pandey's tenure a month before his retirement. General Pandey was earlier scheduled to retire on May 31. The Defense Ministry said that the government has appointed Lieutenant General Upendra Dwivedi, currently serving as Deputy Army Chief, as the next Army Chief from June 30. ➤ Born on 1 July 1964, Lieutenant General Dwivedi is an alumnus of Sainik School, Rewa. He joined the 18-Jammu Kashmir Rifles of the Indian Army on 15 December 1984

➤ Lieutenant General Dwivedi took over as Vice Chief of Army Staff on February 19. Prior to taking over as Vice Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Dwivedi was serving as General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Northern Command from 2022-2024.

Lt Gen Dwivedi has extensive experience of serving on the China and Pakistan borders. He is currently serving as the Vice Chief of Army Staff.

➤ Upendra Dwivedi is an alumnus of the National Defence College and the US Army War College. He has also completed courses from the Defence Services Staff College, Wellington and the Army War College, Mhow. He holds an M Phil in Defence and Management Studies and two master's degrees in Strategic Studies and Military Science.

➤ Upendra Dwivedi was commissioned into the Infantry (Jammu and Kashmir Rifles) of the Indian Army on 15 December 1984. During his long service of 40 years, Lieutenant Dwivedi has served in various command, staff, instructional and overseas appointments.
