Dr. Vikas Divyakirti is one of the well-known IAS tutors of the country. Apart from this, he is also known as a writer and a famous career counselor. In 1999, he started 'Drishti IAS' coaching class. Currently, this institute is one of the top UPSC coaching institutes in the country. Every year, IAS-IPS graduates emerge from this coaching institute. 49-year-old Dr. Vikas Divyakirti was born on 26 December 1973 in Haryana. He completed his schooling from Saraswati Shishu Mandir in Bhiwani. Then he did BA in History, MA in Hindi Literature and Sociology from Zakir Hussain College of Delhi University. After this, he did M.Phil, LLB and PhD. He also obtained a post graduation degree in English to Hindi translation.

Vikas Divyakirti, the founder of 'Drishti IAS' is married to Dr. Taruna Verma. She is the MD of coaching institute 'Drishti – The Vision'. They have a son, his name is Satvik Divyakirti. Vikas Divyakirti's father taught Hindi literature in a college affiliated to Maharishi Dayanand University, Rohtak. His mother was a school teacher (PGT) in Bhiwani, Haryana. Vikas Divyakirti has two brothers, one of whom is a software engineer in America. The second brother is working as DIG in CBI. Vikas Divyakirti is the youngest of three brothers.
Passed UPSC in the first attempt, then left the job
Vikas Divyakirti may be running 'Drishti IAS' coaching center for students preparing for UPSC today. But before establishing 'Drishti IAS', he himself had given the UPSC exam in 1996. Not only this, he got success in the first attempt itself. However, due to some reasons, he could not get the post of Assistant Commandant in CISF. Later he was appointed as an IAS officer in the Home Ministry. In 1999, he was given the responsibility of Section Officer in the Official Language Department in the Home Ministry. After working for about 6 months, he left that post. He said that he was not liking that job, so he took this step.
How did 'Drishti IAS' start?
Vikas Divyakirti had applied for the post of Hindi lecturer in Shivaji College, Delhi University after leaving his job in the Home Ministry. However, he was rejected. After this, he got the inspiration to establish 'Drishti IAS' for UPSC students. According to media reports, Dr. Divyakirti started Drishti IAS by borrowing Rs 15,000 from his friends. At that time, he had rented chairs. The room for the class was also rented. There were only about 12 to 15 students in his first batch. However, his way of teaching increased his penetration among the students. He was successful in explaining even the most difficult subjects to UPSC students easily. This is the reason why today, apart from Delhi, 'Drishti IAS' classes are running in many other cities of the country including Prayagraj.
He has also tried his hand in politics
In 2015, Dr. Vikas Divyakirti also tried his hand in politics. He contested the Resident Welfare Association (RWA) elections in his area in Delhi, in which he won. Dr. Divyakirti is the founder-director of 'Drishti IAS'. He is also the editor of the monthly magazine 'Drishti Current Affairs Today'. He has also written a book named 'Nibandh Drishti'. He also started a YouTube channel named 'Drishti IAS' in 2017, which now has more than 60 lakh subscribers. On this channel, he uploads study material for UPSC aspirants, lectures on various subjects and videos related to exam preparation strategies.
Dr. Vikas Divyakirti told in the interview that he is an atheist, while his parents are followers of Arya Samaj. His wife follows Sanatan Dharma. He told in the interview that during his college days, Osho's thoughts influenced him a lot and he remained an atheist for a few years. The thoughts of Karl Marx and Max Weber also influenced him.
