New Delhi: Amid the ongoing uproar over the NTA NEET and UGC-NET paper leak case, the Ministry of Education has taken a big decision. The Ministry of Education has constituted a high-level committee of experts to ensure transparent, smooth and fair conduct of examinations. This committee will prepare a report on improvements in examinations, security protocols, structure and functioning of NTA. The committee will submit its report to the Ministry of Education within two months. Former ISRO Chairman Dr. K Radhakrishnan has been made the chairman of this committee. At the same time, it includes six members including former AIIMS Director Dr. Randeep Guleria and Hyderabad Central University Vice Chancellor Professor BJ Rao. Who is Dr. Randeep Guleria?

Dr. Randeep Guleria is a well-known doctor of the country. He mainly specializes in the field of pulmonology (lung diseases). Dr. Guleria came into the limelight during the Corona epidemic. He has been the director of AIIMS Delhi. Dr. Guleria was awarded the Padma Shri, India's fourth highest civilian honor, by the Government of India in 2015. He is known for his calm nature and deep understanding of diseases and medical expertise. Dr. Guleria led the central government's response team during the COVID-19 pandemic and also played a major role in creating awareness about COVID-19 treatment in the country. He served in AIIMS for more than 30 years and took voluntary retirement in April 2024.

Dr Guleria was born on 5 April 1959 in Himachal Pradesh. He is the son of Padma Shri Jagdev Singh Guleria and elder brother of Padma Shri Sandeep Guleria. He did his medical studies from Indira Gandhi Medical College, Shimla and later obtained MD and DM degrees from Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh. He is also a member of the Scientific Advisory Group of the World Health Organization (WHO). Dr Guleria was also the personal physician of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee since 1998.

Dr Guleria has made several significant contributions in his career and has been awarded the Raj Nanda Pulmonary Diseases Fellowship and the Royal College of Physicians, UK. He is also an elected Fellow of the National Academy of Medical Sciences (NAMS). He has also served on the editorial boards of several medical journals such as Indian Chest Diseases, Lung India, JAMA: The Journal of the American Medical Association and Chest India. He has also received the Dr BC Roy National Award. Dr Guleria's achievements and contributions give him a distinguished place in the Indian medical fraternity. His life and work are a source of inspiration for many young doctors.

Who is Professor B.J. Rao?

Professor BJ Rao is a well-known educationist of the country and the Vice Chancellor of Hyderabad Central University. He has made many important contributions in the field of education on the strength of his expertise and knowledge. He has been made a member of the high-level committee constituted by the Ministry of Education in the paper leak case. His full name is Basuthakar Jagdishwar Rao. Earlier he was a senior professor in the Department of Biology at IISER Tirupati and before that he was working at TIFR, Mumbai. Rao has obtained BSc from Nizam College and MSc from Osmania University, Hyderabad.

He then obtained his PhD in the field of biochemistry from the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. He then did his post-doctoral work at Yale Medical School, where he worked as a research scientist for about seven years. He then returned to India and became a professor and chairman at TIFR. He then became a professor at IISER Tirupati in 2018. He then became the Vice Chancellor at the University of Hyderabad in 2021.
