When innocent children are killed in war, the heart cries bitterly… PM Modi gave a big message to Putin

New Delhi: During his visit to Russia, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met President Vladimir Putin and clarified India's stand on the Ukraine war. PM Modi told Putin in clear words that peace talks cannot succeed under the shadow of guns. He stressed the need for an immediate ceasefire in Ukraine. PM Modi also expressed the anger of the global community over the Russian missile attack on Ukraine's largest children's hospital. Prime Minister Modi was on a visit to Russia for the first time in five years. On this day, Russia launched a missile attack on Ukraine's largest children's hospital. The whole world is outraged by this incident. Prime Minister Modi also spoke to Putin on this incident.

PM Modi told Putin in front of reporters in the Kremlin, 'Every person who believes in humanity is saddened by the death of people and especially when innocent children die, it hurts the heart. Meanwhile, I got a chance to talk to you on these issues.' Ukrainian President Zelensky had described India's talks with Putin as a big disappointment and a devastating blow to peace efforts. On the other hand, Prime Minister Modi clarified India's stand on the Ukraine war on Tuesday. He said that the war is affecting the Global South, which he is worried about. However, he kept his message soft and said that he has heard Russian President Putin's clear views on peace, which has given him hope.

PM Modi told Putin that as a friend, I have always told you that peace is necessary for our future generations. But I also know that no solution can be found on the battlefield. Solutions and peace talks will not succeed in the shadow of guns, bombs and bullets. We have to find a way to peace through dialogue. PM Modi also said that his talks with the Russian President on Monday have brought forth new ideas and new thoughts.

Ukraine and the US reacted sharply to PM Modi's hug with the Russian President. The US State Department said that this has raised concerns about Russia-India relations. The US wants PM Modi to ask Putin to respect Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity. Reiterating all possible support and contribution to any peace effort, PM Modi said that he wants to assure both Russia and the world that India is in favor of peace.

In such a situation, the attack on the children's hospital in Ukraine and PM Modi's remarks about children hold special significance. Ukrainian President Zelensky used the attack on the hospital to attack the Indian Prime Minister. Russia has denied any role in the attack. Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra later said that PM Modi has expressed concern over the loss of life and property, especially children, in the attacks on Monday. According to sources in the Indian government, Modi's most important message to Putin was that no solution can be found on the battlefield. Putin said that he appreciates Modi's efforts to find ways to resolve the crisis through peaceful means. PM Modi's emphasis on peace talks without violence is also important because it reiterates the international community's call for an immediate ceasefire in Ukraine. Apart from China, India is the only major country that has not condemned Russia's actions in Ukraine.

That PM Modi was trying to mend his strained relations with the West was evident from the fact that he said the world was paying attention to the meeting and interpreting its meaning. PM Modi's comments to Putin appear to be aimed at correcting the imbalance in India's stance towards the West. India had skipped ministerial-level participation in the Swiss peace summit. Moreover, India had also refused to support the declaration that underlined Ukraine's territorial integrity as the basis of any peace process. It also discussed cooperation under a game-changing initiative on critical and emerging technologies.
