New Delhi: The Kolkata woman doctor case was heard again in the Supreme Court today. During the hearing, CJI DY Chandrachud asked several questions to Kapil Sibal, the lawyer representing Mamata government. The court has also asked the CBI to submit a new status report by September 17. The hearing is also to be held on the same day. During the hearing of the Kolkata case today, CJI Chandrachud asked an interesting question. He asked how far is the house of former principal of RG Kar Medical College, Sandeep Ghosh, from the hospital. Kapil Sibal could not say anything on this, but CBI lawyer SG Tushar Mehta said that it is about 10-15 minutes away.
'How far is the principal's house from the hospital?'
As soon as the hearing of the Kolkata case started, the three-judge bench headed by the CJI saw the status report. The CJI asked how far is the principal's house from the hospital? On this, the Solicitor General said that it takes 15 to 20 minutes for the RG to reach the hospital from Sandeep Ghosh's house. After this, the CJI asked the next question that what was the time of unnatural death? When was this death entered? Kapil Sibal, while answering, said that the death certificate was received at 1.47 pm and the entry regarding unnatural (UD) death was made at 2.55 pm. On this, the court questioned that then why did it take so much time to register the FIR?
The next hearing will be on September 17
CJI DY Chandrachud concluded the hearing by saying that we have seen the direction of further investigation, we do not want to comment on it in open court. We want a status report by Monday, let the CBI proceed on the basis of its investigation. The CBI has filed a status report, it seems that the investigation is going on, so we give them one more week. We will see it on Tuesday, let's see what happens then and we do not want to give any advice to the CBI on its investigation.
