Yevgeny Prigozhin, the head of the Wagner Military Group who was believed to have perished in a plane crash, is now claimed to be alive. A video of Prigozhin confirming his existence has gone viral on social media. In the video, filmed in a moving vehicle, Prigozhin states that he is in Africa.
The plane crash incident occurred as Prigozhin’s private jet was en route from Moscow to St. Petersburg, resulting in the tragic deaths of all 10 passengers and crew members on August 23. The bodies had been laid to rest following the incident. However, various discussions, comments, and claims have emerged on social media regarding Prigozhin’s alleged survival. It’s important to note that News18 has not independently verified the location, date, or authenticity of the video in which Prigozhin claims to be alive.

The video that is circulating was shared by a Telegram channel associated with the Wagner Military Group. Reuters, on the other hand, reported that Prigozhin’s clothing in the video matches that of a video released on August 21. In the viral video, Prigozhin himself says, “For those who are discussing whether I am alive or not… what am I doing… today is the weekend. Second part of August 2023. I am in Africa. For those who want to eliminate me, or are interested in knowing my personal life… how much I earn or whatever they want to discuss… please do so. Everything is fine.”
The video suggests that Prigozhin is currently in South Africa, surprising many social media users. Anton Gerashchenko, an advisor to the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, also shared the video. One user commented, “We were expecting Prigozhin’s video since his death. Especially wanted to know about his personal life and earnings, etc. So he is fine now.” Meanwhile, Russia’s Tass news agency reported that Prigozhin’s family had wished for a private funeral attended only by close family and friends.
