in solidarity with the 11th Panchen Lama, who is detained by Chinese authorities; The Norwegian Tibet Committee protested outside China's embassy in Oslo on 25 April.

The protest demanded the release of the 11th Panchen Lama, Gedun Choekyi Nyima, who is being detained by Chinese authorities even on his 35th birthday.

Protesters were carrying symbols of Tibetan identity and the plight of the detained spiritual leader.

Tibetan flags were raised with the image of the 11th Panchen Lama, a reminder of the ongoing struggle for religious freedom and human rights in Tibet.

The protesters also performed a symbolic act of advocacy, as they dropped a letter into the embassy letterbox, urging the Chinese authorities to reconsider the continued detention of the Panchen Lama and release him without delay.

However, the demonstration did not proceed without interruption. Chinese authorities within the embassy immediately intervened and asked Norwegian police personnel to intervene and stop “anti-China activity” outside the embassy compound.

Despite this interference, the protesters remained steadfast in their mission, peacefully advocating for the rights of the 11th Panchen Lama and the Tibetan people. Their actions echoed the sentiments of countless individuals around the world who stand in solidarity with Tibetans demanding justice, freedom and respect for basic human rights.
