New Delhi : Nearly 97.7% of all cases of atrocities against Scheduled Castes (SCs) in 2022 were registered in 13 states. Of these, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh reported the highest number of such crimes. According to a new government report, most atrocities against STs were also concentrated in these 13 states, where 98.91% of all cases were registered in 2022 under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. Special courts were set up in only 194 of the 498 districts in 14 states to expedite the trial of these cases.
A total of 51,656 cases of atrocities against Scheduled Caste people were registered in 2022
- 12,287 cases from UP, this is 23.78% of the total cases
- Rajasthan has 8,651 cases, 16.75% of total cases
- Madhya Pradesh has 7,732 cases, 14.97% of total cases
- Bihar has 6,799 cases, 13.16% of total cases
- Odisha has 3,576 cases, 6.93% of the total cases
- Maharashtra has 2,706 cases, 5.24% of the total cases
- These 6 states account for nearly 81% of the total cases
The report said that out of the total cases (52,866) registered under the Indian Penal Code as well as the SC/ST Act during the year 2022, 97.7% (51,656) of the cases are in 13 states.

Most cases of atrocities against scheduled tribes are in 13 states
- 9,735 cases registered under ST Act in 2022
- 2,979: Madhya Pradesh has the highest number of cases, this is 30.61%
- 2,498 cases in Rajasthan, this is 25.66%
- 773 cases in Odisha, this is 7.94%
- This also includes Maharashtra with 691 cases (7.10%) and Andhra Pradesh with 499 cases (5.13%).
