This 'shortcut' is not good…Gautam Gambhir's warning to Indian youth

New Delhi. IPL has given a platform to cricketers from India and around the world to showcase their talent. Team India's former opener Gautam Gambhir has also composed ballads in praise of IPL. Gambhir has also expressed hope that this league will not become a 'shortcut' medium for Indian youth to join the Indian team. 42 year old Gambhir can become the head coach of the Indian team. BCCI has contacted Gambhir to know if he is interested in becoming the coach of Team India. Although he has no experience of coaching on the international stage. Gambhir is currently the mentor of KKR.

Speaking on veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin's YouTube program 'Kutty Stories with Ash', Gambhir said, 'The big concern for me is how many youngsters want to play Test cricket for India. I hope that IPL will not prove to be a shortcut (easy way) to play for India. The mentor of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) admitted that Indian cricketers have benefited from IPL. In today's era, when I look at international T20 teams and when it comes to playing against India, apart from two-three teams, I do not see much competition.

I am a cricketer not an entertainer… Why did Gambhir say this to Ashwin? Said- I will do this till the last day

Under the captaincy of Gambhir, who led India to victory with his brilliant batting in the 2011 ODI World Cup final, KKR has won the IPL title in 2012 and 2014. According to Gautam Gambhir, 'Many teams cannot compete with India's strength. So, I think today the IPL has become much more competitive than international T20 cricket. The level of our domestic players has increased. The way he wants to play IPL, the way he prepares for T20 cricket, I think his focus is more on playing T20 cricket. Under Gambhir's supervision, KKR have made it to the IPL playoffs this season.
