What is fortified rice?
Most people in India eat rice. FSSAI believes that making rice nutritious can be a good and inexpensive way. Rice production in India is constantly increasing. India is the second largest producer of rice. While fortifying rice, vitamins and minerals are added to it after grinding and cleaning it.
Why is rice fortified?
Actually, while fortifying rice, nutrients like iron, folic acid and vitamin B12 are added to it. This helps to deal with the deficiency of these nutrients and promote better health. By doing this, rice becomes even more nutritious. Rice is the staple food of most Indian people and it is given to poor people under many government schemes. Therefore, fortifying rice i.e. making it rich in nutrients can be the best way.
Disadvantages of Vitamin B12 Deficiency
Its deficiency can cause symptoms and problems such as fatigue, weakness, difficulty in breathing, dizziness, yellowing of the skin, swelling or pain in the tongue, tingling or numbness in the hands and feet, damage to the brain and nervous system, memory loss, mood swings, depression and anxiety.
