New Delhi. Kamindu Mendis has broken the record of India's young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal. The Sri Lankan team is currently playing the second test match of the series against New Zealand at home. In the first innings of this test match, young all-rounder Mendis played an unbeaten inning of 182 runs. Kamindu also completed his 1000 runs in Tests during this period. The record for scoring the fastest 1000 runs in Test is held by Herbert Stucliffe of England and Everton Weekes of West Indies, who reached the mark of 1000 runs in 12-12 Test innings. Yashasvi Jaiswal had scored 1000 runs in 16 innings. This is the fastest 1000 Test runs by a batsman since 1950. After 74 years, no batsman has succeeded in touching the figure of one thousand in such a short number of innings in Test.
