Tow truck scams are carried out in a very stealthy manner. Scammers often patrol the highways and look for vehicles that are stranded on the side of the road for some reason. Then they pretend to help and ask for more money for towing. Unless you refuse to give them money, these scammers threaten to take your vehicle to a secret location.
smoking wheel scam
In the smoking wheel scam, scammers alert you by giving double signals so that it seems like smoke is coming out of your car's wheels while driving. They claim that this can cause a fire or explosion. As soon as you stop the vehicle, these scammers demand a hefty amount of money to help you and sometimes even steal your belongings.
Petrol Station or R&R Scam
This is a dangerous scam that happens at petrol pumps and rest stops. The scammers pretend they are in trouble and claim to have lost their wallet. They ask to borrow your card, usually to pay a small petrol bill, but once you agree, they swindle thousands of rupees from you.
Brake oil scam
When you take a break while traveling a long distance on the highway, you may fall prey to a brake oil scam. Here scammers will approach you and say that your car is leaking brake oil and needs to be repaired urgently.
When you go to check your car, you think that the brake oil has indeed leaked, but sometimes it is not so because these scammers spill some liquid under the car. Instead of helping, these scammers try to extort money from you.
