New Delhi. Indian team captain Rohit Sharma and former captain Virat Kohli have retired from the longest format of the game in international cricket after winning the T20 World Cup 2024. However, both will still continue to play in ODIs and Test cricket. Suryakumar Yadav told about the conversation in the dressing room regarding the retirement of both. Surya revealed that the entire team kept trying to convince Virat and Rohit not to retire after the final match but they did not agree.

Suryakumar Yadav said in a conversation with Sports Tak, “I think it is very difficult to leave the game at such a time. But this is a big thing. It is good that he is leaving this format at such a high level. However, when he was in the dressing room, we were saying that we still have 1.5 years, T20 World Cup is in India after 2 years. Everyone was saying don't talk about it, we will see next year. But both of them had made up their mind. It was already made up and I don't think there could be a better moment than this.”

After the victory against South Africa in the final of T20 World Cup 2024, Virat Kohli announced his retirement from T20 International in the presentation ceremony. At the same time, Rohit Sharma revealed this during the press conference after the match. Ravindra Jadeja has also now retired from T20 International.
