New Delhi : A suspected case of monkeypox virus has been reported in the country. The Union Health Ministry said on Friday that a young patient who recently returned from a monkeypox-affected country has been identified as a suspected case of the virus. The patient has been kept in isolation in a hospital. At present, the patient's condition is said to be stable. The Health Ministry has confirmed that samples of the patient have been taken. Tests are being conducted to find out whether the patient has monkeypox or not.

The ministry said in a statement that the patient's samples are being tested to confirm the presence of ampox. The case is being managed as per established protocols. Contact tracing is also underway to identify other possible sources and assess the impact within the country. Any laxity in this direction will not be tolerated.
