Team India's veteran spinner Ashwin bought a team, know its name

New Delhi. On the lines of the Indian Premier League, leagues for almost every sport have started now. Just like cricket, the Global Chess League has been started to promote chess. Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has invested money in a team of this league. Spinner Ashwin has become the co-owner of the American Gambits team, which is a new team participating in the second season of the Global Chess League (GCL).

The GCL is a league owned by Tech Mahindra and the International Chess Federation. The league on Monday announced six franchises for the second season to be held in London from October 3 to 12. American Gambits, owned by renowned businessmen Prachur PP, Venkat K Narayan and Ashwin, will replace Chingari Gulf Titans in the tournament.

“We are thrilled to introduce America Gambits to the chess world. With a blend of strategic brilliance and unwavering determination, our team aims to redefine the game. As a co-owner, I am excited to witness their journey and contribute to their success,” Ashwin was quoted as saying in the press release.

The five other franchises participating in the second season of the league are Alpine SG Pipers, PBG Alaska Knights, Ganges Grandmasters, defending champions Triveni Continental Kings and Mumbai Masters.
