Taiwan's Ministry of National Defense (MND) said it detected 15 Chinese military aircraft and seven naval ships from 6 am Monday (local time) to 6 am Tuesday (local time).
Taiwan's MND said the nine aircraft crossed the midline of the Taiwan Strait and entered Taiwan's southeastern and southwestern air defense identification zones (ADIZ).
In a post on X, Taiwan's MND said, “As of 6 a.m. (UTC+8) today, 15 PLA aircraft, 7 PLAN ships, and 3 official ships have been spotted around Taiwan. 9 aircraft crossed the median line and entered Taiwan's northern, central, southwestern, and eastern ADIZ. We have monitored the situation and responded.”
This is one of a number of similar provocative actions taken by China in recent months. Reportedly, China has increased its military activities around Taiwan, including regular air and naval incursions into Taiwan's ADIZ and military exercises near the island.
Earlier on Monday, the Taiwanese MND detected 12 PLA (People's Liberation Army) aircraft and six PLAN (People's Liberation Army Navy) ships around its territory.
The MND said seven aircraft crossed the median line and entered Taiwan's eastern air defense identification zone (ADIZ).
The Defense Ministry said, “As of 6 a.m. today (UTC+8), 12 PLA aircraft and 8 PLAN ships have been spotted around Taiwan. 7 of these aircraft crossed the median line and entered Taiwan's northern, central, southwestern, and eastern ADIZ. We have monitored the situation and taken actions accordingly.”
This latest incident is one of a number of similar provocations by China in recent months. China has increased its military activities around Taiwan, including regular air and naval incursions into Taiwan's ADIZ and military exercises near the island.
It is noteworthy that Taiwan has been under independent rule since 1949. However, China considers Taiwan as its part and insists on reunification by force if necessary.
