Taiwan criticises China for violating sovereignty of other countries and disrupting regional peace

According to Taiwan News, Taiwan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) has criticized China for violating other countries' sovereignty and disrupting regional peace.

Taiwan's Foreign Ministry said China's Shanxi Y-9 reconnaissance aircraft entered Japanese airspace east of Danzhou Island on Monday. The ministry said Beijing's action “severely violated Japan's sovereignty and escalated regional tensions.”

Regional tensions have been heightened by China's continued use of military aircraft and warships to intrude into Taiwan and Japan's air defense identification zones and exclusive economic zones, according to a statement from Taiwan's Foreign Ministry, reports Taiwan News.

It said China cooperates with Russia in conducting frequent military exercises in the East China Sea and the South China Sea in an attempt to use force to change the status quo.

According to Taiwan's Foreign Ministry, China's military expansion is a “major threat” to the security of countries in the Indo-Pacific region, including Taiwan and Japan, Taiwan News reported.

Taiwan's Foreign Ministry urged China to “return to rationality and self-restraint” and stop all actions that undermine peace in the Taiwan Strait and escalate regional tensions.

It said Taiwan would strengthen its self-defence capabilities, as well as continue to cooperate with like-minded countries, including Japan, to “jointly prevent the expansion of authoritarianism and aggression”, reports Taiwan News.

On Tuesday, Taiwan's Foreign Ministry reshared a post by US Ambassador to Japan Rahm Emanuel in which he criticised China's “good neighbour” policy as lacking the spirit of “love thy neighbour”. It also criticised China for intruding into Japanese airspace and ramming Philippine ships.

Taiwan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) said China's ambitions “extend beyond Taiwan” and threaten security in the region and urged democratic countries to “unite to counter this authoritarian endeavor”.
