“It came on Women’s Day, and that’s a double surprise. I am very pleased. I am thankful to our prime minister,” said Murthy.

Sudha Murthy is currently on a visit to Thailand.

“I need to assess what actions… what I can do. This is a new area for me. So, I have to initially sit and study, and then I will be able to engage in it.” She expressed her pleasant surprise at the announcement,” she said.

President Droupadi Murmu nominated Sudha Murthy, the author and philanthropist, to the Rajya Sabha on Friday.

“I am content, and at the same time, I feel I have been entrusted with more responsibility. I’ll give my best effort. Personally, I am happy to have a larger platform to serve the underprivileged,” Sudha Murthy told ANI.

“I don’t believe I can label myself as a politician; I’m not a politician. I am a nominated Rajya Sabha member. My son-in-law’s (UK PM Rishi Sunak) politics is for his country, and it is different, and my work is different. I am now a government worker,” she said.

On Friday morning, PM Modi commended Sudha Murthy’s contributions to philanthropy and education, calling them “inspiring.”

“I am pleased that the President of India has nominated Sudha Murthy to the Rajya Sabha. Sudha Ji’s contributions to various fields, including social work, philanthropy, and education, have been immense and inspiring. Her presence in the Rajya Sabha is a powerful testament to our ‘Nari Shakti,’ exemplifying the strength and potential of women in shaping our nation’s destiny,” he said.

Sudha Murthy is an author and philanthropist. She is the wife of Infosys co-founder Narayan Murti and the mother-in-law of Britain’s Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.
